NFL

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America and the highest professional level of American football in the world. The NFL is one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the world, with fans and players from around the globe. The regular season of the NFL runs from early September to mid December, consisting of 17 weeks of games. Each team plays 16 games out of their respective conference and has one bye week to rest and prepare for the rest of the season. At the end of the regular season, the top six teams from each conference will qualify for the playoffs. The playoffs are single-elimination brackets, which determine the two teams that will play in the championship game, the Super Bowl. The NFL has a long and distinguished history. It was founded in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association before changing its name to the National Football League in 1922. The first Super Bowl was held in 1967 and has since become the most watched sporting event in the world. Legendary players like Tom Brady, Brett Favre, and Lawrence Taylor are considered some of the greatest players in the history of the league. The NFL boasts some of the most successful teams in sports history, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, and the New England Patriots. The NFL is renowned as one of the premier leagues in the world of professional American football, with an emphasis on competitive and thrilling entertainment. The season culminates in a grand finale, the Super Bowl, which has become one of the most prestigious and highly watched events on television. Cleveland (1-6) turns the page against Baltimore (5-2) in an AFC North tilt. The Browns play with heavy hearts after longtime radio announcer Jim Donovan passed away Oct. 25, aged 68. Donovan called games from 1999-2023 before retiring Aug. 29.

Green Bay Packers at Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars (2-5) return to the U.S. to face the Packers (5-2). Green Bay has won three straight after a 24-22 walk-off victory over Houston in Week 7. Jacksonville salvaged a 1-1 trip to London with a 32-16 win over New England at Wembley Stadium.

Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers

The Cowboys (3-3) and 49ers (3-4) limp into a prime-time match. Dallas took Week 7 off after getting demolished by Detroit 47-9. San Francisco is without wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk who tore his ACL and MCL on Oct. 20. Dalvin Cook debuts for Dallas.

Houston Texans at New York Jets

The Texans hope to leave a trick for a Jets team in need of a treat on Thursday Night Football. In Week 8, New York dropped a fifth straight game in remarkable fashion, 25-22 to the rival Patriots. Houston bounced back by beating Indianapolis.

Denver Broncos at Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens try to get back on the horse as they host the Broncos in a clash of 5-3 clubs. Baltimore's five-game win streak was snapped by Cleveland in Week 8. Denver has also won five of its last six after doubling up Carolina 28-14.

New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers

NFC South sides riding long slides collide when the Saints (2-6) visit the Panthers (1-7). Part of New Orleans' 2-0 start was a 47-10 victory over Carolina in Week 1. The Panthers have lost five straight following a 28-14 decision at Denver.

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

The Texans (5-2) try for a rare three-game win streak against the Colts (4-3). Houston has beaten Indianapolis three straight times once in franchise history (2015-2016). The Texans topped the Colts 29-27 in Week 1. Houston is 3-0 at NRG Stadium.

New York Jets at New England Patriots

The Jets (2-5) try to sweep the rival Patriots (1-6). New York fell 37-15 to Pittsburgh in prime time Oct. 20, its fourth straight loss. Davante Adams, acquired from Las Vegas on Oct. 15, caught three passes for 30 yards in his New York debut.

The Buccaneers and Falcons duel. Atlanta prevailed in a 36-30 overtime shootout versus Tampa Bay on Oct. 3. Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins passed for a career-high 509 yards and four TDs. The winner will move into the NFC South's pole position.

Tennessee Titans at Detroit Lions

The Lions host the Titans. In Week 7, Detroit dealt division rival Minnesota its first loss of the season, 31-29 on a last-minute Jake Bates field goal. The Lions seek their first win over the Titans since the latter moved to Tennessee in 1997.
