Food: Fact or Fiction?
Was pizza really invented in Italy? Does chicken soup actually help cure the common cold? Those are some of the food myths that are explored on this series that tries to separate fact from fiction. Actor Michael McKean examines commonly held beliefs about food -- including popular food remedies and romantic recipes and aphrodisiacs -- to see which ones have some validity and which can be completely debunked. Themed episodes include one that takes a look at breakfast -- is it really the most important meal of the day? -- and another that travels around the food globe to see where popular international dishes were really created.
S4, EP20 "Deli-licious"
Dishes from the deli, including how the bagel met cream cheese and lox, black and white cookies, and when pastrami was first put on rye.
S4, EP21 "Layers of Flavors"
Michael McKean digs into lovely layered feasts and discovers information about club sandwiches, tiramisu's link to coffee, and why London may lay claim to lasagna.
S4, EP23 "Potlucky"
Michael discovers how the casserole began as just a pan, why chocolate sheet cake is a Texas treasure, and when potlucks first became bring-and-share bashes.
S4, EP24 "Tasting Is Believing"
Michael McKean reveals flavors are not always what they appear, including how apple pie could go crackers, why seaweed is giving bacon a run for its money, and how texture can determine taste.
